Working with a school for multiply-disabled students during DAP made me question a lot of what I had planned for life. I always had an interest in teaching, but this showed me a side of the profession that required immense patience, and where the rewards may not be as tangible as for teachers in conventionally-abled students.
The experiences have stayed with me. They make me question how I'd be as a parent of a child with special needs. They also put my privilege squarely into perspective - students here graduated from Class 12 well into their 20s, and had to work much harder than I ever would to achieve any degree of independence.
I may not have received a lot of answers about what to do with my life based on this, but my time here definitely made me ask important questions of myself.
